Description

This planetary nebula, also known as Sh2-95, is located 4500 light years away in the constellation of Vulpecula at a declination of +29 degrees.  This magnitude 13.5 PN spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 1.5 light years.

This PN has strong signal in both HII and OIII.  The OIII is a bit stronger, which leads to the bluish color.  The shape is circular, which is not unusual, but the texture of this PN is unique.  It looks like a ball of snakes.  I am not sure what could have led to such an appearance.

A small bright blue star is seen at the center of the PN.  This star appears a bit too bright to be the progenitor star, but it could be.  Numerous small foreground Milky stars give the nebula a speckled appearance.
